elephant rock

I went to a quilt retreat last weekend and the route I took went past the Elephant Rock.  Living in the Driftless Area you will see a lot of rock formations that still remain after the glaciers came through.

The Driftless area is also called Ocooch Mountains where it's very hilly and rugged, this is the part where I live in, up on a ridge.

in the hills

On our way to breakfast yesterday, the hills were smoking all around us, I love it when they do.

Momma kitty was all tired out from a day of hunting.  It was hot and humid, and she was absolutely tuckered out.

On my walk the other morning I had some eyes on me.  Our neighbor is going to be done raising beef and this one is the last of 4 that are up here at what is called the upper barn.  It'll be sad not to see any more beef cattle here when I take my walk.

Life here in the hills, you just never know what you'll see.

storm brewing

A storm was brewing in as I wrote this post early last evening.  The clouds were simply amazing as I looked up to the sky.  We have been having rain and it has really made everything green up around here, so different from last spring around here.

The lilac bush is starting to bloom, we thought we had lost it a couple of years ago and had to cut it all down.

It's so nice to smell the outdoors again with the rains and everything blooming, a few reasons why I love the four seasons.

smoking hills

Last week on our way to meet and pick up the grandsons for their week stay here on our farm, the hills were smoking, and we haven't seen that it seems like in such a long time.
We hit 103° temperatures yesterday, that was definitely a record for this year and maybe that's a record since we moved here to Wisconsin.  We have AC but don't usually put it going, we definitely have had it on for about a week now.  I'm not the fondest of AC but I will turn it on when the temps are just too hot to handle.

perched eagle

It's pretty common that when we drive anywhere we will see an eagle.  When I took this photo it was very foggy.  I spied this eagle sitting at the top of this tree looking down into the creek.

Linking up with Our World Tuesday.

sheep in the meadow

The colors are not that colorful this year.  It seems when we have a wet spring and summer the colors aren't as vibrant.

trying to stay cool

Heading to the quilt retreat I went to last weekend, I passed this herd of cattle resting in the warm mid-day sun.  One was trying to stay cool by standing in the creek.
